As Christian parents, it’s our responsibility to raise our children in a Christian environment.  Everyday life with young children  is very busy. There is so much to do daily.  School, work, dinner, baths, dance class, baseball practice, packing lunches, homework etc.  These are also responsibilities.

In the midst of real life, here are a tips for Christian parents:

Christian ParentsModel

As Christian parents, it is important to model Christianity in everything we do.  Our children are constantly watching our actions and reactions.  They  hear what we say and see what we do.  Kids are watching everything from how we interact with others at the grocery store to how we react when someone cuts us of while driving.

Our children learn Christ from what we do as well as what we say.  We have to be mindful of what we do.

Study with them

Although our children may see us in our personal study time with the Lordm it is important to have some family activities .  A great idea is short daily devotional time right before bedtime prayers.  Our family is using the God and Me Devotionals.  It has 365 child-centered devotionals for children to learn God’s love.  <<<Review coming soon>>>  Another idea is to have a bible study ” verse of the week” that the whole family is studying.  It’s easy to integrate discussion of the verse during meals and car rides. Looking for Family verses of the week?  Click here for 52 Free Printable Family Memory Verses.

And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”

Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Worship with them

Let’s face it, church service for parents with young children can get very stressful.  When my daughter was really young, I wanted to just cancel the whole experience until she was 16.

So what ‘s the work-around?  Actively engage your children in the services.  If the congregation is singing a praise and worship song, have them sing also.  If they can’t read the words, whisper them in their ear so they can participate.  If there is scripture being read,  have them read along.  If they can not read, point to the words and have them “read-along”.   Check out 4 Ways to Get Kids Reading the Bible, for a few tips to engage young children with the Bible.

As Christian parents we have model Christ-like behavior.  It is also important for us to engage in family devotional time and  involve our children in the worship service.
